criminal records checks are now compulsory for many jobs in the UK. But foreign workers will pass if they have no rercord in the UK. So foreign sex traffickers are OK to work with vulnerable people but British people with years old minor misdemeanours are excluded from employment. Surely this constitutes discrimination against British workers.

moreVoting Question: Why do police officers get away with so much?
Why is it the majority of people just assume that the police are all 'good guys' and everyone they arrest is a 'bad guy.' In my opinion the majority of the police are the worst of criminals. Once they have a badge and uniform they can do whatever the like to you, even shoot you dead and get away with it.
They always use excessive force on people, when it just ain't needed. I always watch these programs, such as street crime uk, road wars, etc and the force used is just so unnecessary. You don't need ten cops to dive on one drunk for example.
I don't think its fair that these 'criminal cops' are allowed to get away with so much. I read a report in the local paper a few weeks ago that the a substantial number of the police officers had criminal records. If you ask me, I think the majority of the police are just bullies, scumbags. I would go as far as to say that the police are the worst type of criminal.
I ask the question on here after reading this - http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2347027.ece - but that is just one of many things that happen all the time, every day. The police have far too much power and get away with far too much. It doesn't suprise me when I hear of that cop in Northern Ireland getting shot and those three in Oklahoma. What do they expect? Do they think they can go on treating people the way they do and get away with it? Maybe if they treated people normal and maybe if some of there powers were removed then they would be treated with respect back.
I have never really been in trouble with the police except when I was about 15 years old when they arrested me for, as any one at that age does, getting drunk in the street. The bully cop asked me if they can on the floor was mine, to which I denied, and he rammed my bony arms in to the phone box and threw me in to the van. I've also been in a car with a a mate when the police have pulled him over for random check and as they seem to stop him regularly he mouthed of a bit, to which one of them replied that if he doesn't shut up they 'will strip the car bare and trust me, we will find something', implying that they would either arrest him for the smallest thing or plant something on him. There are many other stories of cop misconduct like these but the majority of the people in this country don't see it so assume it does not go on and continue to praise the police, even though they don't do a good job.
As far as I'm concerned, the police are more interested in speeding drivers or drunks out on the town than gun or knife crime. Doesn't matter though, because they will get what is coming to them as far as I'm concerned. Here in Liverpool, people are fearing the police less and less. If they carry on the way they are going, there will be riots.I knew I shouldn't have asked this question in this category, which is full of cops who are obviously going to defend their own no matter what. Don't talk about all that 'risking our lives' bullshit. The only people risking their lives are those who stand near a cop with a gun in his hand, as we all know they're trigger happy. To Citicop: I would never want to your job. It is the worst of jobs. Where I come from, even the most law abiding citizens regard the police as the enemy. In Liverpool, UK, the majority of the police officers are not from the city. The police force here was once regarded as the most racist in Europe. In 1981, riots erupted in the Toxteth area of the city. This area is predominantly black, and the police were banging their shields at the locals just like the Zulus did, and were also shouting 'come on you black bastards.' But the rioters had the last laugh, the put over 500 of the officers in hospital. By the way, I'm white.Youthpastor - it's not about believing what I hear on TV, I can actually see what's happening with my own eyes. And it isn't fiction, it is factual, it's an actual camera crew following them on duty.

A convicted paedophile who was arrested while working as a children's nurse is waiting to hear if he will be deported from Britain.

The German had been convicted in his absence by a court in Cambodia for a string of attacks on young boys, but was able to get through security checks in this country because he has no European criminal record.
What can be done to stop scum like this entering the UK. They pose a real threat to young children, and the fact that this man, a convicted paedophile was able to work in an environment with young dependable children is shocking.

moreResolved Question: I'm confused about whether I have been offered this job, or am being seriously considered for it? (UK)?
I recieved a letter this morning that stated I have been successful having interviewed for a job last month. It says congratulations on my success, and that they are looking forward to working with me in the future, but the letter also says that they need to verify my work history for the past three years, and also do a CRB check (criminal records bureau check) on me because the job is related to a branch of the government. After that it says that they need to go through this information to confirm whether they are able to offer me a post or not.
Do you think this means I'm being offered the job? Or that they are going through this with other people and will then make their decision? It's been such a complicated and somewhat extended application process anyway, and I'm just so confused about what this means!
This is in the UK, so anyone who has any clue about this, PLEASE HELP!!
moreResolved Question: How would an American with a criminal record get into the UK?
I've travelled to the UK at least 30 times over the years. However, I was a naughty boy a few years ago and now have a criminal record (white collar, not that it makes any difference). Apparently I can never EVER travel to the UK for the rest of my life (unless I apply for a waiver that is denied 99.999% of the time). But how does customs know if I have that record? Does it link to the US's system, the NCIC? Is every American who enters by air, sea and Chunnel screened somehow? Is there one way of entry less likely to be screened (Chunnel train?). I am an executive, very well dressed, in case one's 'look' makes you more or less likely to be checked. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks for the many good answers. I should have mentioned that I've already been to EU countries since the legal troubles. What I intended to do is to take the train from Paris to London and try my luck; if stopped, I just go back (I know the first offense is treated as a simple refused entry). But not having been to the UK since 9/11, I wondered if they started scanning EVERYONE's passport and if the system is linked to US records. Or, is it still a random process where your 'look' weighs heavily on whether you're chosen or not.

On this grid is says that for a conditional discharge the period is until the order expires... so does this mean that because i did not re offend and the time has no passed, i can class my conviction as spent?

moreResolved Question: Do U.S. Immigration Officials have direct access to UK arrest and criminal conviction records?
My work colleague and her fiance booked their honeymoon in the U.S. which they need to travel to in 2 weeks. She holds a UK passport and recent U.S. Immigration regulations require that she gets an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) before she travels to take advantage of the Visa Waiver Programme. To be eligible for this you must not have a criminal record and you must also have never been arrested by the police, even if you were eventually released without charge. Last year while on holiday her car was stolen and used during an armed robbery. She was arrested when she got back, bailed on the same day and released without charge 2 days later when the police finished their investigations. Now because of this arrest she will need to apply for a U.S. visa and it takes nearly a month to get that sorted. She hasn't got that time and she is considering not mentioning her arrest when applying for the ESTA. Does anyone know if there's any chance that the U.S. authorities have the facility to check U.K. police records to find out about her arrest and deny her entry at the border or refuse her an ESTA?

moreResolved Question: Domestic Violence case - NRI?
I have received a criminal court summons from India. I live in the UK. My wife is in India and has been there for 2 years now. She deserted me and has filed false DV case against me.
She has charged me under section 18, 19, 20 of DV act. There is no children, thus no custody issues.I have no family in India.
We have checked with the local Police station in India and there is no FIR - so no 498a case filed as yet.
I have a few key questions - please help:
1) I have taken opinion from 2 different local lawyers in India - and both have mentioned that my family will have to come to India. The local court will not accept Vakalatnama. From the various readings I have done on this website and others, DV case is civil and I'm confused as to why court requires my family to be present (at least present once). There have been no hearings as yet and there is no such mention that presence is required in the Domestic Incident Report. Can the lawyer not represent us for all the hearings?
2)Both local laywers do not want to fight the case. Both are pushing me / suggesting out of court settlement ways, i.e. to get a 'punchait' or local community involved as mediator. I understand that alot of these cases are solved out of court. But are these lawyers pushing me towards this option as this is what they would prefer from a monetary prespective? i.e. they will get a cut. All charges are false. But would a out of court settlement perhaps be cheaper from my point of view too given the monetary relief might be even higher? Would I have to India even for an out of court settlement?
3) a) Given I am a NRI in UK and my wife is in India, what is the point of the protection order? We will be living separately, so there is no chance of a breach of that order
b) There cannot be any residence order as my family and I do not have any matrimonal house in India. so what is the point under this order?
c) As for monetary relief, how can this be enforced? Am i right to understand, that a breach under this order is NOT criminal but civil?
4) Given the above, what is my benefit of even bothering to pursue this case? Even if the court passes exparte, should I be concerned? I dont care about a divorce.
5)So far, we have received one court summons (this was received late). There is a second court date (checked by the local laywer), but I have not received the summons as yet. There is no record of acceptance of the first summon with the court nor record of despatch of the second. What is going on? Are the girls side deliberately delaying so that a out of court settlement is done?
Please help. Extrmeley confused.
Thanks

moreVoting Question: Can I overturn a 5 year police caution forced on me?
I was arrested yesterday lunch time for picking up my own bike lock, which I had lost previously whilst riding my bike on that route. A short route of less than a mile which I ride up and down to work every day. Unfortunately it was 100 metres from a police station. A police car appeared just after I picked up my bike lock and had walked about10 metres, it pulled in front of me and two very aggressive policemen put handcuffs on me and said they saw me pick up the lock which is 'theft by finding', a criminal offence. I tried to explain but they wouldnt let me talk or try and prove it to them, I was in shock. They took me to a police cell at the nearby station and kept me there 6 hours, i asked for a solicitor and they said 'you're legally entitled to a solicitor' but there's only one solicitor for the entire region East ANglia and i won't get to see him for poss. 24 hours in the cell - bastards. I asked to phone him then and they again pulled the same you're legally entitled but we won't even let you even try and contact him routine. They said they'd do anything possible to convict me for theft and then I'd lose my job for having a conviction and be unemployable. Then they pressured me into signing a 'caution', which they assured me would last 1/2 yrs max and not affect my employment. When i read the copy they gave me as I left it stated that it will be on my record in the UK for 5 yrs and any employer can see i've admitted theft when undertaking a CRB. Thing is i'm in process of applying to become a teacher, or related profession and know they'll do an 'enhanced CRB' check on me revealing the (false) admmission and caution to criminal offence of stealing a bike lock. I suffer from thyroid problems and a history of severe depression/anxiety and have low paid job, becoming a teacher was only thing was looking forward to and have to admit this has made me think it's over and I have no choice but suicide finally. Also my work knows what happened! Haven't support, or a girlfriend (nothing new and am 37 yrs old . Help!

moreResolved Question: UK> Criminal Record Bureau Check for empoyment purposes?
I'm trying to apply for a Paramedic Science course. They do an enhanced criminal records check which can rule me out of getting a place.
A few years ago I was going tru a rough time and I was arrested a few times:
- driving uninsured (convicted)
- After an argument w a girlfriend that got physical, I was taken in for print (but not charged)
- driving under the influence (blood sample showed me to be under the limit, so no convition there)
- I was accused with criminal damage but the crown prosecution did not follow with the charges due to lack of evidence.
- numerous unpaid fines
Will all of these show on my criminal check? With how much details? Do you reckon these will exclude me from working as a paramedic?
Thanks you!thank you guys!

moreResolved Question: Does this prove that the government trusts foreigners over the british?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7389219.stm
So British workers have criminal records checked, but foreigners dont...
If criminal record checks matter (do they?) then surely they matter for all staff - if not then why bother for anyone?
Or is it that the Government just don't like the British public.
moreResolved Question: I recently married a decent man from the UK. I am a Canadian citizen and just received my right to remain in?
England. He is now applying to Canada.
About 7 years ago he got into a battle with abusive stepfather and hit him in the face. The stepfather pressed charges. My husband was then taken to jail for 2 nites and fingerprinted but no other punishment was imposed.
He has come to Canada many times since and we have gone to the US where the first time at the border he was fingerprinted and waa-la, no problems.
Now, as he is applying and wants to be honest, would this case be considered high-risk and what are the chances of him getting the Permenant Residency? There has been no other charges ever as this was a one time gig and well deserved I may add.
He is waiting now for the results from the Uk regarding the criminal record check.
Thank you very kindly

I did a stupid thing and shoplifted a couple of months back, I got given a caution by the police. Now I'm terrified it will hinder me in the future. I'm only 18 and will go to university in September. I hope, or hoped, to go into investment banking but am so so so terrified now. I swear I will never do anything like that ever again!

17 years ago l received a conviction which l totally forgot about. l recently had a CRB check and the conviction has come up. I was hoping to work with mental health patients, but am now worried of the consequences of how this will affect my employment. The conviction was not drugs, theft or in anyway harming anyone else if anything very embarrasing and was a silly teenage mistake that l made.It seems to have returned to haunt me. Is there a way for me to have this removed from my record? In the UK
